Media education is a compelling force, as it can truly influence entire organizations to make positive changes in line with the 17 Sustainable Developmental Goals.

The British Broadcasting Corporation has been inspired by Blue Planet II to cease its use of single-use plastics by 2020. The news/media company accounts for at least 2 million plastic cups used annually by visitors and staff, and it has become evident that this must change.

“Scrapping throwaway plastic cups and cutlery is the first step, and with our plan I hope we can have a BBC free of single-use plastic altogether,” Tony Hall, BBC Director General told BBC News after admitting Blue Planet II informed him about the growing environmental problem.

In Blue Planet II, it was highlighted by narrator David Attenborough that “unless the flow of plastics into the world’s oceans is reduced, marine life will be poisoned by them for many centuries to come.”
